I Love MAPS!
Maps of all ages, styles, colors & regions. You name it-I’m a sucker for them! They are so easy to decorate with; you just cannot go wrong with one. I enjoy gazing at them, getting lost in navigating the world whether planning my next road trip or traveling half way around the world, or at least dreaming of taking one of those trips! I created these stunning DIY United States & World Maps not only for their beauty, but to capture and display some of my journeys.
Our daughter went to college over 1,100 miles from home. My husband and I were blessed to be able to travel all over the U.S. to watch her and her teammates play softball. When Micheala made the decision to go to college so far from home, people asked me, “How can you let your child go to college so far from home?” Simple. It wasn’t my journey, it was hers. It would have been selfish of me to deny her the opportunity to spread her wings and fly. Along her journey, she’s had amazing opportunities, made great memories and met some of the most incredible people with which she would not have met if she hadn’t followed her heart and taken that step. Most recently, after graduating college, she set out for yet another adventure by moving even further, this time to California in order to follow her dreams.
One of the multitude of incredible people Micheala met at college is former teammate Dara Kolar. Dara would be a senior in college this year, graduating in May but speaking of journeys, she decided to take a year off from school and softball. Anyone that knows her knows how determined and competitive she is. I know, you’re probably wondering what on earth this has to do with my love of maps, or you’re thinking Dara is crazy for leaving college with one, short year to go! That too, is simple. Dara’s journey is taking her on a path around the world. Literally. Dara has been convicted. Not of a crime or wrongdoing – far from it. Not only is she a beautiful, smart, talented young woman, she’s a Christian. She has been convicted by God, she has a heart for serving the Lord through ministry in world missions.
This January, Dara leaves the comfort of her home, family and friends for 11 months to serve others in 11 countries throughout the world through World Race. It wasn’t an easy decision for her but she took that step. I could go on for days about Dara but I’d prefer to let her share her journey with you. I thought it seemed fitting on this giving Tuesday to share my love of and inspiration for my New Creation in hopes that you will not only love my DIY U.S. and World Map tutorial as well, but you would join me in supporting Dara’s journey by taking a step and donating to help her spread the love of Jesus in 2017. You can learn more about Dara on her World Race blog or find her on Facebook at Dara World Race Journey; while you’re there, please donate! No amount is too small!!
I can’t wait to add to my maps over the years, I hope you are inspired to make one of these for your home or for a friend. Heck, invite a friend over and make one together!
Your journey never ends, even when you think there’s no where else to go, another adventure awaits. It’s up to you to take the step.
