Meet Lillian

Isn’t she lovely?!

I inherited this little gem from Big Grandma, my hubby’s grandma. After Big Grandma went to live in an assisted living facility, my in-laws sold the contents of her home, donating what didn’t sell to local charities or they gave things away to whomever showed interest. Luck for me, no one snagged her up so I took her home, cleaned her up and gave her lots of love!

Throughout the many hours I worked on her, I constantly thought about Big Grandma. All of the fun times, funny memories, lots of laughter, but most of all…her. Even at 90, Big Grandma is a beautiful, vibrant, fun, caring woman whose mere presence brightens a room. One of the many reasons why she’s loved by the multitudes!

I wanted to refurbish this piece paying homage to her namesake, Big Grandma, more formally know as Lillian Mildred. In 5 easy steps, I transformed this lovely piece into a delightful, farmhouse chic, French country treasure!

  1. I gave her a few coats of super simple, DIY homemade chalk paint,
  2. Then, I lightly distressed the finish by using fine grit sandpaper
  3. I sealed with a clear, matte sealer
  4. Added these milk glass knobs and handles
  5. And finally to finish, I added beautiful fabric to the back panel with spray adhesive

I love how the vintage replica glass hardware purchased from D. Lawless hardware (seriously, the BEST hardware supplier & I don’t get paid to say that!) and one yard of a beautiful Waverly fabric I picked up at Hobby Lobby added the finishing touches to this piece making it truly unique! The creamy white chalk paint adds to her charm without overpowering it. She will fit beautifully in any space!

I think Big Grandma would be pleased with the result, and I hope you are too!

As always,

Keep Creating!
